I heard on lbc this evening that the moron government now wants to levy a parking tax against diesel car owners! Apparently they feel its necessary because diesel cars emit dangerous emissions. When I heard this I nearly fell off my chair and it wasn't in amusement but in sheer shock at how stupid this government really is. I'm a diesel car owner and have been for nearly two years and there is no way i'd go back to owning an uneconomical petrol engined car. I get almost 550 miles out of a full tank and ever since i've owned my diesel my fuel bills are £80 less per month as apposed to when I had a petrol car.
I ask you how can any car emit emissions while its parked up and stationary! NOT MOVING! the issue here should be about space not about what comes out of the tail pipe. We are in a recession at the moment and what better way to get more money out of us than by applying a punitive tax against diesel owners. It's almost like they don't like or want drivers to save money annually and have to put a stop to any oneupmanship that exists.
Seems another cheap ploy by the government to rouse up scaremongering tactics involving the environment and suggesting diesels lead to greater pollution. Well this may have been the case 20-30 years ago but diesel cars are far more cleaner and better refined than ever before and as long as its well maintained, i.e. fuel and air filters are changed as per service schedule there will be no issues. Actually wait a moment....the same applies to any car not just diesel.
It is also worth noting that diesel cars are far more reliable than petrol cars and they last longer so surely with this in mind more petrol cars are scrapped annually and parts are replaced more frequently which leads to effects on landfills and disposal costs. So perhaps the government should charge petrol car owners a tax on maintenance? nah they won't do that because most of the politicians drive Aston martins or Bentley Continentals which us poor souls have paid for via the public purse.
What's next I wonder...broadband tax. I have an image of Brown and his sycophants rubbing their hands together excitedly, planning the next method of implementing a new form of money making.
